Easter Busy Bee - 17 April 2017

By Chris R.

On the Easter Monday holiday, we were fortunate to have the assistance of an enthusiastic group of volunteers to work on a number of outstanding projects at the Sanctuary.

Two animal shelters were completed – one for the baby goats and one for the donkeys and cows. A strong tree guard fence was constructed in Ripper Ram's paddock and animal poo was collected and bagged for fertilizer.

The baby animal pen was also raked of spent hay, multiple loads of lamb washing completed, the kitchen and laundry were cleaned spotlessly and stepping stones were put in place to provide a short cut to the feed shed through the garden. The weather was perfect and our team of workers both cheerful and productive.

The morning of labour was rewarded with an amazing spread of vegan delights including a gourmet potato bake, fresh fig and rocket salad, baked Mediterranean pasta and assorted breads, vegies and dips. The meal was finished off with fruit, fudge and cake.

A huge thank you to all who attended and contributed to the feast – it is always appreciated!

Easter Craft - Gift Tags

On Good Friday we visited family for morning tea and in the afternoon wrapped Easter gifts.

Every year we make our own Easter gift tags. This year we used recycled card and a range of lovely stickers and papers purchased from Australian store Craft Online: https://www.craftonline.com.au/. One particular item of interest is their black and white colour-in Washi Tape. These tapes can be left black and white or coloured-in with pencils or textas. We used the 'Easter Egg' design.

Recycled card tags with Spring themed papers, Easter stickers and colour-in Washi tape.

These floral design tags can be used for Easter gifts and other occasions.

Happy Easter everyone!

Easter 2017 in Possum Valley

By Chris R.

The mild autumn weather is ideal for tea on the deck. We are planning a few mornings over the break to enjoy our home made Easter goods and coffee while watching Digby and friends grazing peacefully in the paddock.

Easter morning tea with friends in the Valley – featuring vanilla marble cake, chocolate cakes, almond and cinnamon seed cake, veggie sausage rolls and homemade grain breads with dip.

Each Easter we look for new festive ideas for our cruelty free celebrations. This year we enjoyed making assorted sheep and native animal chocolates.

Sweet William baking choc chips worked brilliantly. They melted quickly and gave a lovely shine to the finished chocolates. Small vegan marshmallows added tasty texture to the sheep shaped chocolates.

Beautiful Easter lilies in the garden.

In addition to chocolates, we tried our hand at baking a marble cake to share.  It was easy to veganise the CWA cookbook favourite and it tasted fantastic!

A very Happy Easter to everyone from PVAS!
