Goat Yoga at PVAS

By Chris R.

As a new and exciting fundraising idea, Possum Valley ran goat yoga sessions at the Sanctuary on select weekends in Autumn. The sessions were very popular with both goat and yoga lovers. Lesley, our volunteer yoga instructor and goat carer, linked the yoga activities to the hooved residents participating in the sessions, adding to the fun.

Gertie, Nibbles, Dasher, May and Genie, along with sheep Jeremy, Joseph and Joyce, appeared to enjoy the sessions as much as the patrons, who were set up on their yoga mats on a large bed of straw in the goat paddock.

The goats nibbled, sniffed, hooved and played with participants as they made their yoga poses. The sheep and cows in adjoining paddocks looked on, setting the scene with well timed 'moos' and 'baas' as the session progressed.

Many thanks to those who supported our goat yoga sessions.

Be sure to get your ticket for the last Autumn session scheduled with the lovely yogi Dimity on Saturday the 29th of April at 3.30pm.  See the Possum Valley Facebook page for booking details.

PVAS at Envirofest 2017

By Chris R.

On Saturday the 25th of March, Possum Valley attended Whiteman Park’s ‘Envirofest’ – an event organised to showcase environmentally conscious and sustainable ideas in the community. It was a beautifully sunny day and the PVAS stall was popular with both children and adults. Visitors to our stall could meet PVAS residents Dasher and May the goats and Noodle the rooster. Baby Lilly the goat made special appearances at feed time, winning many hearts with her huge ears and affectionate nature.

PVAS presented a number of displays designed to encourage people to adopt a cruelty free lifestyle, which has huge benefits for the environment. We also launched our newest product 'Rescue Poo’ fertilizer which was well received by the gardeners attending.

Many thanks to everyone who stopped by to say 'hi', to purchase some of our beautiful merchandise or to learn more about helping the animals and the earth.

Vegan Recipe: Will's Vegan Blueberry Slice

By Chris R.

This delicious and healthy slice was created by a work friend who amended it to be entirely vegan with no detriment to its flavour and amazingly light texture.

The slice will keep frozen or in the fridge for up to a week, but I’m sure it won’t last that long once tasted!

Ingredients:
-1¼ cups of icing sugar mixture
-½ cup of plain flour
-¼ teaspoon of baking powder
-1 cup of almond meal
-1 capful of vanilla essence
-1 capful of lemon essence
-150g of light Nutellex spread, melted and cooled
-150g of frozen blueberries
-4 tablespoons of ground flaxseed to 12 tablespoons water, mixed well
-Icing sugar to serve

Method:
-Sift the flour, sugar and baking powder into a large bowl. Stir in the almond meal.
-Make a well in the centre of the mix and add in the flax mixture (which has been lightly whisked), the Nutellex spread and essences.
-Pour into a prepared pan and sprinkle with blueberries.
-Bake at 180C for 30 to 40 minutes.
