Volunteering with Jenny

By Jenny

In my short time volunteering at PVAS, I have enjoyed meeting and learning from all of the lovely people who spend their lives making sure the sanctuary is the successful refuge that it is.

I appreciate the variety of animal husbandry, care, and farm maintenance duties that volunteering at PVAS has exposed me to - it is a refreshing pause from the rigours of veterinary school!

I look forward to my time every week at the sanctuary, and I cannot wait to continue learning the personalities (and quirks!) of the many animals whom call the Valley of Hope home.

I started volunteering at Possum Valley Animal Sanctuary to gain experience with a range of different species before starting the vet medicine course at Murdoch. However, I quickly fell in love with the personality of each animal, which they so clearly present. I’ve been exposed to many rewarding opportunities and experiences and I feel lucky to be involved in the amazing work the sanctuary does!

Did you know that Chickens are highly social creatures with unique personalities? They are also extremely inquisitive, they can recognise human faces and they have incredible situational awareness. They notice any small changes that occur in their surroundings and they become excited vocally when they find treats! Chickens are clever, cute and cheeky!

I volunteer at the PVAS because chickens are hilarious to engage with, they make me laugh out loud and bring so much happiness and colour to my life!

I also volunteer because I have made such an awesome group of friends who live their lives with purpose and integrity and complete all the goals for the day in an efficient and highly cheerful manner.
