PVAS Winter Busy Bee 2018

On Sunday the 12^th of August the Sanctuary held it’s winter busy bee. The turn out was incredible, with over twenty people pitching in to help the animals.

Much to our excitement, a number of outstanding projects were completed on the beautifully clear winter’s day.

 

Projects included a large weather-proof shelter for the teenage lamb pen, fitting of a double door to bird aviary, construction of a brick pad for a new pre-release possum aviary and weeding of the Sanctuary’s memorial garden. In addition to all of these, the crew worked on getting through copious amounts of lamb laundry, cleaning sheep pens and starting the pre-summer tidy of the Sanctuary grounds.

This hard work was rewarded with an incredible pot-luck lunch, which included sweet potato soup, sushi, Mexican bake, scones with jam and coconut cream, poppy seed muffins and ‘cheese’ cake slice.

To finish off their day at PVAS, volunteers enjoyed a tour and meet and greet of the Sanctuary residents.

We are always so appreciative of the efforts of our amazing volunteers. They help enrich the lives of our animal residents greatly.

Native Arc Visit Possum Valley

On Sunday the 24^th of June, a team of enthusiastic animal lovers from Native Arc visited the Sanctuary for a busy bee.  

Native Arc work tirelessly to help native animals in need in the south metro area.  The organisation cares for over 3000 native animals each year and we were excited to have them spend the day in the Valley.  

The group worked on a number of important jobs, including the installation of a new possum pre-release aviary, fox proofing of two new rooster shelters, placing mesh around trees to prevent damage by the sanctuary goats and raking litter up into piles to assist our burn off program.  Following a morning of hard work, the team enjoyed a cruelty free sausage sizzle and tour with guide Kym.

PVAS Winter Busy Bee

On Sunday the 7^th of August PVAS held its winter busy bee. We were fortunate to have the rain clear, leaving a cool yet sunny day for our group of fantastic volunteers to work on various projects around the Sanctuary. A shelter for the rams was built, synthetic turf installed in the duck house, the donkey and sheep pen cleaned and grass and weeds were removed from around the possum cages and house. We were very fortunate to have a number of gorgeous ladies from the Perth Pin-up Community attend, bringing some style to the morning of work.

A delicious vegan lunch was enjoyed after the hard work, with an amazing and varied spread of cruelty free foods also provided by our enthusiastic volunteers. The humans and animals then enjoyed pats and photos while relaxing in the paddock.
