On the 25th of October, a fantastic crew from MPM group
arrived in the Valley at sunrise to install air conditioning in the house. The past four summers in the Valley have been
challenging - we are fortunate that the nights are cool, but are concerned
about the welfare of our residents when the temperatures soar on
summer days. We were absolutely
delighted to hear that MPM group were willing to donate and install two amazing
units before summertime.
In the heat of summer, heat sensitive animals (especially
those who are old, young or ill) are brought into the house to rest in the cool
of the bathroom, bedroom or kitchen, out of the heat of the day. Temperatures reached over 48C in the shade
last year, which animals, in particular poultry, find very difficult to cope
with despite having sprinklers and mist enclosures.
In past years, sensitive animals have accompanied us to work or were dropped
at the homes of friends and family in an effort to keep them cool. We are very excited that this year they can
stay with us under the newly installed air conditioning system.
We would like to shout out a huge thank you to James and
his colleagues from MPM who coordinated cooling for the Sanctuary so promptly
and professionally - check out their work at: http://www.mpm-group.com.au/
