Morty the Calf

Susie, a friend of the Sanctuary, contacted us last month regarding a little bottle fed calf - Morty!

Morty was born on an Angus beef farm in the southwest. He was a large baby, weighing in at over 45kg at birth, and as a result, presented with abnormal front knees.

Fortunately, the farmer organised a vet to treat Morty’s legs, and his knees underwent corrective strapping.

As Morty required many weeks of hand feeding, he was in need of a new family.

After hearing his story, Susie soon had the sweet little calf on the road to a new life in the Valley!

Morty’s legs are recovering well, and he is mastering both running and jumping.

He loves chin scratches, licking hands and snuggling in his straw each night, and has the gentlest moo we’ve ever heard.

Thank you Susie for coordinating Morty’s arrival -  he’s a very special grass puppy and wins every heart he meets!

Quails – Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

Just last Saturday, a family of eight little Japanese quails arrived at the Sanctuary. The carer of this bonded family was reluctant to split the group and having trouble finding a safe home, so a cosy aviary was set up in the Valley for the feathered friends.

We named each of the quails after the Seven Dwarfs, and white fluffy female, Snow White!

Looking at the photos, you can certainly pick out Sleepy and Bashful, meanwhile Grumpy is the first in the feed tray each morning and vocalising at his siblings!

PVAS in the Media: Containers for Change for Possum Magic

CONTAINERS FOR CHANGE FOR POSSUM MAGIC

Did you see the story about Possum Valley Animal Sanctuary in the Echo Newspaper?

Since the Containers for Change program started in the Shire of Mundaring two years ago, the Sanctuary has recycled 127,135 containers through the program, raising $12,713 for the Sanctuary. The funds have contributed to the costs of rehabilitating and retiring wildlife and farm animals.

The Shire has supported the Sanctuary by providing five additional bins to collect eligible drinking containers for change. Each fortnight the Shire collects the bins and recycles the containers at Coppin Road Community Recycling Centre where the Sanctuary receives a 10c donation per container.
