Easter in the Valley

By Chris R.

Pearl the Wiltshire Lamb

The Easter break is a lovely time to catch up with family and friends.  We were fortunate to have time off from work, allowing the opportunity to make Easter treats and to enjoy festivities with loved ones.

Vegan rocky road, chocolate sheep and native mammals were moulded using Sweet William chocolate and given as gifts. They were gathered in cellophane and tied with recycled ribbon.  Hot cross buns were also toasted and eggs wrapped on the Easter long weekend.

Chocolate possums

Easter Saturday brought beautiful rain, through which our trusty volunteers worked hard to move a five metre aviary to the Valley for use by rehabilitated possums. Despite the tempest it was safely transported and placed in the Valley’s gardens.

The fundraising sound meditation was held on Saturday afternoon, complemented by the sound of rain on the roof.

Easter Sunday was enjoyed with the family. Our beautiful cruelty free gifts included a Sponsorship Chick named ‘Betty’ (sponsored through Animals Australia) and fantastic ‘Egglings', or seed ‘eggs’ you can grow, which we highly recommend for garden enthusiasts out there!

Late on Easter Sunday, two more gifts arrived care of Sanctuary friends Alex and Ric – twin lambs, who, in keeping with the Easter theme, were named Faith and Hope. The hand reared orphans faced an uncertain future, until a kind person took action to organize a home for them.

We hope everyone had a happy and safe Easter!
