New Ewes at PVAS

By Chris R.

Carla, Mrs Digby (rear), Honey and Imogen

In early Spring we received a call from the local ranger, reporting the impounding of four ewes.

These ladies had roamed bush land in the Perth Hills for many months, despite ongoing efforts to catch them. They proved a challenge for authorities, clearing high fences and showing great agility in rough terrain.

All four ewes are Damaras, a self shedding sheep breed originating in Namibia.  They are renowned for their goat like abilities to jump and run, which no doubt led to their freedom.

Since their arrival, the four have settled in to Sanctuary life well.  They will now hand feed and even have a scratch on the head if offered treats.
