Summer Arrivals to Possum Valley

By Chris R.

Over Christmas we welcomed a number of new hooved friends. Each has a different background and story, but all are settling in well and enjoying their new forever home at Possum Valley.

Dasher the Kid Goat

Young Dasher arrived shortly before Christmas after spending some weeks in the pound. He was living in suburbia with students and eating an array of unhealthy foods. Dasher was known to wander and was eventually collected by a ranger. The rangers took excellent care of Dash until he could be safely re-homed. He is underweight but friendly and growing well now on a healthy diet of Lucerne and oaten hay. We also fondly know Dasher as ‘Mr. Big Ears’, for obvious reasons!

Eric the Wether

Eric is a huge and flighty dorper sheep. He was captured and held in the pound at the end of Spring.  Sadly no one claimed this big boy and with no identification, his owners could not be found. The ranger staff caring for Eric happily delivered him to the Valley, where he showed an amazing feat of athleticism, jumping out of their truck into his pen. Eric has befriended Albert and Victoria the donkeys, feeling at ease with some of his large equine buddies and is slowly beginning to calm in our presence.

Prancer the Ram

Prancer was dumped in a regional park at the beginning of summer and fortunately captured and cared for by park workers. With the approval of council rangers, he arrived in the Valley during Christmas week. Prancer quickly made friends with Eric. He is also friendly with people, suggesting he has been a pet or hand raised as a youngster.

Ripper the Ram

Big Ripper arrived in early January from a much loved home. Sadly his owner is moving house and was desperate to find this handsome ram a safe place. Despite his size and horns he is very sweet, enjoying ear rubs and chats at feed time.  His human ‘Mum’ still visits, bringing treats and messaging after him often.
